large object wide angle
I need to photograph a large object (http://www.flsouthern.edu/eng/abruce/rood/IMAGES.HTM -- the Ruthwell Cross). I need to get high detail of all aspects on the cross from top to bottom with minimal (preferably none) distortion on the edges of the cross so that the image ends up looking like a flat scanned object. I was planning on taking multiple close up shots along a vertical axis and stitching the photos together (see camera setup at http://www.gettysburg.edu/~jrutkows/testcross/photography/CameraSetup.jpg). Can you recommend a lens for such a project that will make the stitching easy? Yes -- this is very ambicious for an amateur... will end being in something similiar to http://www.gettysburg.edu/~jrutkows/testcross/testcross.html
