Quantaray Lenses Pro/ Con

Pro: Cheap Con: Cheap

Ihave to write this for all aspiring serious photographers. Dont believe the hype. Yes these lenses offer much by way of cost per capabilities ie f/4.5 28 - 200 for $170. You have got to look beyond the #'s. For months I have been stuggling with the image qualtiy of my photos with this "Q" lens. Everyone else thinks they are great but I see flaws.
I just took some photos at a wedding (African)using pro film (VC 400/160). At first glance, Great! When I took some time to really examine them I notice the same problem I had seen with my consumer film shots. Softness and graininess in the soft areas. Frusrtated I was looking at some fotos I shot months ago, I was very satisfied with (fuji 400). The lights went on. I used my basic Canon 28-80 on those photos.
Now I have to get rid of this Q lens. But its like selling bags of sugar at a diabetes clinic.
My 2 cents -- when it comes to your passion invest more than 2 cents!

Its best you shift your selection of lenses to BETTER quality and award winning models by TAMRON, Tokina or Phoenix. They have a variety of manual/autofocus lenses available.

I am presently using Quantaray lenses(28-105mm &70-300mm + 2x teleconverter) for all of my photos!!
Recently I spent 2 days in Mobile,Alabama where the U.S.S.Alabama battleship is located, taking pictures for a research project.
I have nothing but compliments from everyone who sees the prints.
I feel that you can use any equipment that you feel comfortable with!!
