Scanner question

Epson 3200P scanner purchased about 3 months ago, came bundled with Adobe Elements II and Silverfast.

Initial installation routine. Services provided 3 options/levels of complexity, AUTOMATIC, HOME, & PROFESSIONAL. Scan window appears on the left side of screen and preview windows appears on the right side. After about 15-20 minutes of operation the scan window disappeared... preview only. After several hours of troubleshooting discovered switching to another user idenity restored everything to normal. After approximately 1 week same failure... nothing but a preview window. Same results regardless of which method of accessing the scanner you use, the direct approach with EPSON SCAN, SMART PANEL, OR ELEMENTS II.
Stripped just about everything out of loading a bootup to preclude software/resource conflicks there. Didn't help. Then discovered scanning can be accomplished through the SilverFast image enhancement package. At the present that's the only way I can use the scanner, and although it's good in it's on way it's not the total answer to scanning.

Anybody got any ideas on restoring normal scanning short of creating a new user idenity/profile every time the glitch strikes... I can see having a gazillion user identies before the year is out..
By the way... I have tried using USB2 and Firewire with no change in solving the problem.. Frederick
