infrared photography

I'd like to attempt taking pictures with infrared film. However, my lens doesn't have the red line which should indicate the focus position for infrared film. How do I determine that focus position? Is there a formula or something?

See http://photonotes.org/articles/ir-myths/ for some beginner information. One of the items addressed is focus. Focus adjustment is not that critical unless you are using an infrared filter that blocks all light other than IR. If you do intend to use an IR filter, then you need a lens with the IR focusing marks. The adjustment is dependent on the particular lens design, there isn't a rule of thumb for making the adjustment since for some designs it might be closer focus, and for others it might be farther, and for zoom lenses it depends on the focal length setting.
