Tripod selection

I am about to purchase a new tripod. From the research I have done so far I'm pretty sure that I want the Bogen 3021PRO. My dilemma is in choosing an appropriate head. Mostly I shoot birds using my prime lens (Canon 100-400IS) and a lot of those are in-flight shots which I generally hand-hold. However, for landscapes, macros and static shots I always use a tripod.

I have looked at the Bogen 3030 pan/tilt and the Bogen 486RC2 ball-head. I have also looked at their 3265 & 322RC2 "pistol grips" The problem I have with those is that even in the lightest setting I seen to get a lot of hand fatigue by constantly squeezing the grip to re-position.

Anybody have any other suggestions or guidance?

Thanks

Jim, though Bogen is quite a fine tripod---There's a catalog of the most GEAR by MANFROTTO ( also check their wonderful website and request their latest catalog ). When I looked at their catalog, I was AMAZED at their numerous tripod possiblities! Find the time to search what you think would be appropriate for your tripod needs...
