Always use a Lens Hood? Do all of you guys use Lens hoods for your camera??? Im going to get a Canon EOS 300D DSLR and I was wondering if I should always use a Lens hood if I am to get the best out of my photos. Im a beginner that wants to become very good ofcourse as I am really into photography and its a passion I hope to follow. I heard a lens hood improves your photos and blocks out bad light sources... so should I get one and use one at all times???

I vote yes and yes. The only time to remove it is if using the low-mounted built-in flash since the hood is apt to block some of the light and cause a shadow. But that just argues for getting a larger accessory flash. ;-)

Something to consider if you want a zoom lens- a hood that is wide enough not intrude into the image (called vignetting) when using the wide end of the zoom will not properly shade the telephoto end. This matters less with, say, a 16-35, or 80-200 zoom than with a 28-300. Also, a hood will protect your lens from damage in crowds. Finally, among photographers, it'll make you look as if you know what you're doing. Only rarely will you see a pro shooting without a hood.

You don't always have to use one. If the sun is just outside of the angle of view, a lens hood can block the glare from it. But with the sun behind you, straight above, or if the sun is in the frame, a hood dosen't affect anything. If a hood will have any effect, you'll see it.
