How to start selling I am an ameteur photographer from India. I have been talking pretty decent quality photographs. I would like to sell copies of many of them for prices suggested by fotoquote. How shall I start? please advice me. My collection consists of excellent quality digital images of orchid fowers which maybe of interest to calender and greeting card manufacturers....so please tell me how to start and what to do next...whom to contact...etc etc...

Anoop, I too am from India and have been taking photographs since my trip to Rome in 1999. Anyway, I too wanted to market my photos to card/calendar manufacturers and other publications. I did some research and found the following book "2004 Photographer's Market: 2,000 Places to Sell Your Photographs". It is a great book. I bought it a while ago and I have already gotten some responses from several publications. Even one in Bombay, India. WOW! Hope that helps. Let me know how it works out for you.

Thank you so very much thushar.Thank you for ur very very valuable opinion. But now the problem is the price of that book. I am not in a position to afford buying a Rs 800/- priced book. What shall I do? do u know any places where u can get it cheaply? Or can you be of any help to me in anyway? Please respond.

Thushar if u don mind, tell me answers to 3 more qns. 1. where did u buy that book from and for what price. 2. what remunaration did u get from foreign and indian companies per photo that u sold 3. what format did u supply the photos please tell me these .....

Anoop, I bought the book from Barnes & Noble book store for $29.95 plus tax. There are some other books that you can get for a cheaper rate...but for me...the amount of information you get with this is well worth the $30. I sent some photographs of places I recently visited in India. Places like Jaisalmar, Agra, Delhi and some remote parts of Rajasthan and Gujarat. The Delhi Agency (listed in book)asked for pictures of anything. I sent both digital images on a CD and hard copies. I felt it would be better to send "local" images. It worked. Well, that should cover it. If you need any more help let me know.

Thushar, the images I got to sell are high quality images of orchid flowers. If you don mind, can you tell me at least one good place esp greeting card or calender companies where I can sell them. If I get to sell at least one or two image(s) for a fair price, I will be able to buy a copy of the book myself. Hope you don mind telling me that.
