Wedding Photography - (F-stop)

Please advise on best f-stop for indoor wedding. I ususally concentrate on setting my light (Sunpak 555) to expose at 5.6 or 8.0. In an effort to illimunate the background slightly, what should I do. Drag shutter or open the lens up more?

I would maintain the aperture and drag the shutter for background.

try f/4.5 or f/4 if you can and come down on the shutter speed. If you can't, then f/5.6 and come down on shutter speed.

Hmmm. I know it's an artistic preference, but I shoot with large apertures. 1.8, 2.0, and 2.8 almost exclusively thoughout an entire wedding.

I know it's stylistic and merely a preference, but I like the focus to be on the subject and blur out all the crap around the subject.

There are instances where I decrease the f/stop for scenics, crowd shots, or when the environment calls for it. But, I shoot tight, in general.

That's my style. So, to answer your quesiton, I'd open up the lens.

Jerry
