Are you looking for an inkjet printer? If so, I would recommend an Epson printer. I have 2 epson printers that I have been using to print 8x10s and smaller and the quality is fabulous. However, if you plan to sell prints to clients I would recommend the Epson 2200 because it has archival quality inks and you can print up to 13 inches wide by 44 inches long. It's a little pricey at a retail price of $700 but I'm sure you can find a better deal on the internet somewhere. Hope that helps. I don't have a 2200 but I have been researching larger format printers and for the dollars, this one seems to be the best. Plus I have always gotten great results from Epson printers. They can be a little touchy, but if you know what you are doing, they work great. I plan to buy an Epson 2200 myself in the next coupld of months. Hope this helps.

  Hi!

The Epson 2200 can be had for about $550-$800, depending on the retailer. A good place to check is deal-time.com. :)

The only issue with the Epson 2200 is that some have noted issues when printing to 3rd party glossy papers. Bronzing/flaking has occured, so you will want to check to see what papers are compatible with the printer.

Not sure what you price rang is, but there is also the Epson 4000 which uses the same inks in bigger cartridges for longer printings and is 17" wide.

If you want fast glossy prints for clients, but doesn't have to last as long as 50+ years, you can go with the Canon I9000/S9000 which are also 13" wide printers which can print out full bleed glossies in about 4 minutes. Very nice, but once again, restricted to certain papers only.

Outside of Canon and Epson, there really isn't much that is reputable.

If you don't need 13" wide printing, you can go with the Epson 960, C84, R300 printers as they are the 8"x10" variety. Same with Canon's S960, S900 printers.

Personally, I'm waffling with the Epson 2200 as the price point makes it a bit high. I own a C80(predecessor to the C84s). Uses durabrite inks so it is water resistant and prints nice pictures with 25+ year life. I'm thinking if I didn't need ultrachrome inks for super mattes or 13" wide printing, then I'd just upgrade to the C84 until I really need the 2200 or until epson comes out with yet a better photo printer.

If 8.5x11 paper size is sufficient for you, the Epson R300 produces excellent photo qulity images. Of course, it seems I get the best quality prints from Epson paper. For larger format prints, I understand the Epson 2200 and Epson 4000 are awesome, and they use the higher quality inks.
