Minolta X-370s and macro lens extension tube

I have a Minolta X-370s and a Minolta 100mm 1:4 macro lens with a 1:2-1:1 extension tube. When I shoot with only the lens, exposures are fine, but when I add the extension tube, the shots come back completely black (I shoot primarily color slides). Exposures with all my other lenses are fine. The macro lens + tube worked perfectly on my X-700 (this camera body no longer works and I replaced it with the X-370s last January, rather than get it fixed). I thought the TTL meter was supposed to compensate for the extra lens length. Any idea what could be happening? My husband has a (much older) X-370 body. Should I try shooting a roll of film with his camera?
Thanks for any suggestions!
