How to Become a Professional Photographer Hello, I want to become a professional photographer specializing in studio and wedding photography. I took a beginning photography class 3 yrs ago in college, so I am a little familiar with photography. Where do I start? I have a 35mm SLR, but everything I've ever shot has come out a run-of-the-mill snapshot. I would really like to get more creative, but don't know what to do. I am interested in shooting people and making beautiful photographic memories to last a lifetime. What do I use as a backdrop and lighting (I wanted a few flat backdrops)? What camera should I use, should I go digital?

Start with what you want to do. You want to do studio, which is nothing but portraits, and portraits can be done just about anywhere. You can have an outdoor studio. Which is just taking portraits outdoors. You need to be observant about what you like about pictures, images that you see. Look at what you like about a photo in a magazine, what you don't like. Where the light is coming from, how the light looks. Don't use other pictures just to copy, but to see how things look and how you would either do it the same way, or maybe change a little that you think would make it look better. What is it about your pictures that makes them so plain. You already have a camera so practice with that. Practice on people you know. Go digital if digital helps you do what you want to do, without throwing down a lot of money just because you think it's the new way to go.
