Shooting etched glasses

I need to take photographs of etched glasses so that the etching is clearly visible. The glasses are all clear and the etching is frosted or transluscent.

What's the best technique (background, lighting etc.)?

If you have only one light, you can have the light coming straight down to cut down on reflection glare and show texture will come out more.
Background dosen't have to be black, but dark will contrast with it well.
