The Learning Process: New Camera, Terrible Manual

Now that I have bought my first 35mm SLR, a Canon Rebel 2000 EOS, I find myself looking at the rather small owner's manual and wondering what they are talking about. I am begining to understand what affects aperture and shutter speed have on photographs, but I find the manual that Canon included very limiting. Any recommendations on third party books that either explain more about my equipment or technique would be greatly appreciated. I really want to learn how to use this camera other than in Fully Auto or Program. Any help would be appreciated.

Eric :)

Hi Eric... When I went out to buy a camera I bought Michael Langford's 35mm Handbook (err by Michael Langford...;p) and I bought the Canon EOS as well. I bought the book first and it taught me heaps so by the time I got the camera and read the manual I knew everything it had to teach me. I learned most of what I know from that book and via the web (and this forum) so that would be a good start.

I would also recommend the Magic Lantern guide for the Canon EOS Rebel 2000. At the very least, grab a sales brochure for the camera; believe it or not, this often tells more about what the functions do than the manual.
