Which SLR Panoramic should I buy?

I am finally tired of compact cameras after having 10aps and 35mm. I insist on Panoramic and there are not many SLR with Pan. Which camera should I buy?

Printing panoramics is really a function of printing the developed negatives moreso than any in-camera function.

With APS when you select panoramic mode, the full negative frame is exposed, but a code is recorded on the film telling the printer to make a panoramic crop. You can later have the picture printed in C or H format if you like.

With 35mm cameras that have panoramic feature, the camera masks the top and bottom 1/4 of the film frame. It is really no different than taking your normally exposed negatives back for reprinting and requesting a panoramic enlargement.

That said, some Japanese market versions of Canon's entry-level SLRs have this panoramic masking feature that is not included in the US models. Look for used or gray-market imports of the EOS Kiss (Japanese version of the old Rebel XS), EOS 55 (Japanese version of the Elan IIe), New EOS Kiss (ie. Rebel G), or EOS Kiss III (ie. Rebel 2000).

Some good panoramic models include HORIZON Panorama ( available at ADORAMA e-mail info@adorama.com)the Hasselblad XPAN with dual format, the FUJIFILM GX617, Linhof Technorama 617SIII and the Noblex Pro ( ALL ARE AVAILABLE AT B&H www.bhphotovideo.com ) All of the panoramic cameras are quite expensive but are reputable panoramic cameras! Have fun in choosing what you need.
