Best way to take pictures in overhead sun?
What is the best way to avoid to take pictures in the midday sun without having the shadow areas too dark and the sunny areas too light?

When taking pictures of people, use your flash in a fill mode, or in the case of a P&S turn your flash on. If the sun is directly overhead you will have little or no shadows anyway. Water shots work really well in the midday sun, just make sure that you are near or on the water when shooting. The worst place to shoot would be on concrete or asphalt. In this case shots aimed up at buildings away from the sun will look good.
