Photography Question

Color on Black & White Photos

I have seen some photos where the majority of the photo is black & white but selected portions of the photo remain in color.

I work with digital photography only and have Adobe PhotoShop. Can this be done in Adobe PhotoShop and if so, how is it done.

If not, is there other software that will allow me to perform this task?

Thank you.

Take a photo, duplicate it, change the duplicated to black and white. Use select all on that, copy it, and place it as layer over the color image. Select the part from color image that you plan on remaining color in the finish project. And copy and past that on top of the black and white layer. Flatten image and there you go.
