Photography Question

What would be the best Digital SLR to upgrade to ?

I have the canon G3 and would like to upgrade to a digital SLR...I have seen the new canon Digital SLR Rebal that is out, but I wonder if this is a camera that I may grow out of in a year or so...I could go up to 1,500 at the very most for a very nice camera...I have never used an SLR camera before, I have always had point and shot film cameras then the G3...I also see that most SLR's are about a 6 MEG PIX, should I wait to see if newer cameras come out with more that the 6 MEG PIX or is 6 MEG PIX good ??? Any info would be great....THANK YOU !!!!

Right now the canon digi rebel is limited on lens choice. It dosent' fit the regular canon lenses. I think the price of a canon D10 is 1,700. You can check adorama.com and see what they are selling it for. Personally, I would say get something like a D10(I have a D60 and it's really the same thing, D10 has a higher max. iso I think) and you'd be able to use all of canon's lenses.
There are cameras, or at least there is one camera, that has higher mega pixels, but what really matters is how does the picture look when you holding in your hand.
You don't necessarily have to get caught up with getting the most mega pixels known to man. A good camera, a good lens, a good printer, and what I think many people overlook, good paper, you can get very nice looking digital prints.
I found out that good paper can make a very big difference in how the print looks.

This is not right, in fact it is the other way round.
The 300D (Digital Rebel) comes with a 'kit lense' that WILL NOT fit any other EOS type Canon SLR camera. All other canon EF type lenses will fit the Rebel.
Lisa => as Gregory stated, a good camera is a good camera regardless of MPixels. Both the Rebel and 10D use the same sensor, hence both are 6Mpixel. The Rebel is basically a 'cut down' version of the 10D, aimed at people just like yourself, who wish to make a foray into SLR photography.
What you will notice is the lack of shutter lag (the time between pressing the button, and the camera responding), which will enable a greater amount of freedom in your photography. The downside of going to SLR will be the cost of lenses to perform various styles (Wide angle, macro, wildlife [from a distance], and so on may require a future investment in lenses to achieve the goal you have in mind.
As for waiting, there is always newer cameras coming out, so, how long do you intend to wait ;)
Also a link to a review site.

Hope this helps.

My mistake, it does fit their regular lenses. Got some confusion from a magazine article.
Then a digi rebel sounds like a good choice.

  Gregory and Phillip

Thank you both for your time and help, I have a bit of research I can see...Gregory I do agree with the importance of a printer and the proper paper, I use the HP Photosmart 1215 and only Hp Premium paper, I have tried other paper but did not get a good print...Phillip thank you for the site, I will be spending some time on this site to research...I need to compare the 2 camera more, I do not want to grow out of the rebel in a year, as you said Phillip newer cameras keep comming out I think I would like the mid range SLR to start with so I do not want to purchase another soon after my first SLR...Again I thinak you both for your time and helpful information....
Lisa
