good portraits can be made anywhere, posed or not. Don't have to be inside, even during winter. Do need a camera though. Black backgrounds are easier than white, just make sure not much light falls on the background. You can buy fabric cheap at a place like wal-mart and find a way to hang it up. Or use furniture aroung the house for props.

Black and white backgrounds are kinda difficult because on a white background, your lighter colors will merge and be lost and on a black background, your darker colors (like hair) will be lost or merged with the background. Average tonality backgrounds are best. Like a grey card, 18% gray is a really good starting background. Good luck!

Black backgrounds are easy. Adds drama and wrinkles in fabric are easier to hide too. White backgrounds you need to add light and many people don't have an extra light.
