Resolution settings for 5x7 pictures

I just bought a Minolta Dimage F300 (5 MP)and I would like to know what is the correct setting to have "studio developed" 5x7 photo.

The camera has five image file size settings 640x480 , 1600x1200 , 2048x1536, and 2560x1920. It also has 4 quality settings ranging from Econ. to S. Fine.

For example under a 1600x1200 image size the image file would be as follows 6MB, 1 MB, 550KB and 300 KB.

Could someone shed some light on this subject. I'm just trying to find the right setting for 5x7 pictures so that I won't be wasting storage space on my SD card.

bigger files give better quality pictures. If you want the best, then shoot at the 2560 at the fine setting. If you're able to, shoot at that and transfer everything to a cd as soon as you can.
But if you can't, the next size down but still at the fine setting should give good pictures at a 5x7 size, especially if the film speed is not above 400.
But 1mb would work for a 5x7, but I'm surprised you're getting 6mb for an image that's 1600x1200. You sure that's right?

The 6MB shots at 1600x1200 are achieved on the super fine setting that generates TIFF format files.

Steves Digicams has the settings charts:

I'm currently using the 1600x1200 at Fine setting which generates a 1.0MB JPEG file, whoever I haven't developed any of the shots yet. I uploaded them and viewed them and they looked very good, however it's not until I send them to the professional development shop that I will see if the settings I selected are too weak.

I can see myself going up to the 2048 x 1536 at Fine. The image file would only be 1.5 MB. That means that with a 256 MB SD car I can take about 170 shots or the equivilent of 7 rolls of 24-photo film.

Here is a sample picture of the camera set at 1600 x 1200 with the standard setting. The file is about 392 KB.
