Whacky Portrait Shoot

My employer knows I love photography and she has asked me to take some photos of our staff that represents the whacky characters we actually are. We have a great working environment and a lot of fun. I work in marketing & design, producing advertising material for various medias.
This is my first official request to do photography and I am a bit "frozen" on ideas, let alone know-how on how best to produce the correct lighting.
My equipment:
Pentax MZ50 SLR 28-80mm Sigma Lens & 100-300mm Sigma Lens
Olympus Z5050 Digital
Polariser and UV Filters
I'd like to do portrait shots outside as well as within our quite dark office (don't have a proper studio) which is only lit by flourescent light - not good!!!
Currently it's 40+ degrees celcius here in Western Australia, spring has arrived!
I would really appreciate any tips on FILM TYPE (I like to use slides & digital) and BEST LIGHTING for indoors and out on portraiture shots.
Our staff are mainly nurses and so their uniforms are white, which outdoors could be quite glary.
All your comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance, Cheers, Nicole
