Photography Question

35mm Camera brands

I have been a Pentax user (K1000, MG, SF1, Pz1P) for 25yrs and am considering taking photography past the ameture level. Why is it that Pentax does not seem to be considered a pro-level 35mm SLR? All I ever see "Pro's" with (35mm) is Nikon or Canon. Why? My Pz1P or an MZS seems to compare spec wise.

Some pros use Pentax. Most use Nikon and Canon, perhaps because they hold up better under adverse weather conditions.

I have invested money into a Pentax system, right now I have a PZ-1p. I love my camera and I will never let go of it, But Tony is right. Nikon and Canon seem to be more rugged. Although my Pentax has taken quiet a beating in the weather that I shoot in sometimes.

I hope this helps, most of all, I have found that there will always be new "hot" cameras, lenses, meters, etc. I will never be able to keep up with that, so I have invested, and will stay with that system for several years, if not my lifetime. You make the picture good not the fancy camera equipment, it's purposes is to help you be streamlined and efficent.

Thanks for the responses Tony, Ryan.
I'm the last guy who argues brands. We all know its the nut behind the camera. That's what frustated me about the Nikon / Canon war of words. I've seen snaps from disposible cameras that were great. It's been alittle time since your answers and I've gained alittle more insight. I love outdoor landscapes and nature and havne't quite decided which system to go with. Heck... maybe a Pentax 645 is the way to go. Thanks again guys.

The Pentax 645 is a great camera, while I have a Mamyia 645 for my studio, the Pentax is great as a location machine because of its light weight. I still have and shoot 60% of the time my pentax system for event and stock photography. I also shoot LF. I have also heard of some really famous Celeb photogs snapping with a disposible because no one would suspect that a proffesional photog would shoot with that. (although, it still would be nice to have flash control etc.)

Anywho, I am rambling, Pentax is great, Nikon is really good, so is Canon.

Pentax 645 for landscape is a great combo.

happy shooting!
