Photography Question

Overexposed portraits??

I'm confused. I took a roll of portraits using my Canon Rebel EOS XS, 75-300mm lens, 200 speed film. I have two 110 w/s stobes (that I'm just learning how to use). I took half a roll of film in automatic mode and they came out great. I then switched to manual to play with the settings(unfortunately , didn't write them down)and the photos didn't come out. The bottom half of the image on the negative is missing. What happened?

  Hi Dena,
When you say the bottom half was "missing"...I assume you mean that it was black, while the top half looked normal. If that was the case, it could be that when you "played" with the settings, you set your shutter speed faster than the flash sync speed on your camera. I think the Canon Rebels sync at 1/90 second, (check your manual)...Any setting faster than that will cause a portion of the frame to black out.

Bob. Thanks so much. I bet that is exactly what happened. I remember the shutter speed being faster that 1/90. You saved me a lot of frustration!
Thanks again!

Dena P.
