This is a pretty serious business, Christy. The competition is very intense and everyone is quite good. What markets do you want to target? Look at web sites of professional photographer's who are currently successful at what you want to do and emulate them. Try to assist professionals in your area. Take many workshops from working professionals. You will NEED very good computer skills to function in the current world of photography. I'm always emailing images to publisher's and clients. It's a long road, Christy, but remember, if it were easy, everyone would be doing it. You can do it. But, understand that it takes a total committment and a considerable time and capital investment.
