How to Shoot at Night With Glaring Lights

I am trying to take pictures of my daughter's pom squad performing at night on a football field. The glaring lights on the field are directly behind them (there are 18 girls). What film and settings should I be using? My pictures have been coming out dark and fuzzy. I used a 400 speed film.

I've done a lot of shooting football games and such and night, and found that you need almost at least 1600 speed film. Your results may come out a little grainy, but the action will definitely have stopped and it should look as light as you see it.
