Light placemen

I'm in the process of setting up my first lighting assignment using white seamless paper. Vik suggested placing a backlight on a boom arm centered over the backdrop. I have no boom arm but have 2 backdrop lights. Where do I position these lights, how high do they need to be and what angel should they be pointed at? #2 I have a large softbox for my main light and a 10 panel relector/diffuser umbrella for my fill light. Are these correct light sources for this assignment. Also, should the lights be places closer to the front of the backdrop or do they move according to my camera distance? If my subjects are on the ground do I need to lower my light?
Thanks for your help! Lisa Belcher
