How to simulate color photo's of the 50's and 60's How can a modern photographer simulate the look of color photo's from the 1950's and 1960's? I have noticed that color photo's of the 50's and 60's as well as 8 mm and super 8 color film footage have a unique and distinctive look. Is it possible to simulate that look using available materials today such as filters, film, and/or technique? It appears that the photo's have a slight shift in the color spectrum compared to modern photo's. If filters are used to simulate the look will commercial labs interpret this as a color flaw and correct for it?

Either shoot digital or have your film scanned. This way you can play around in Photoshop, Photoshop LE, Elements 2, or Paint Shop Pro and get what you want. You can desaturate the colors, do some color shifting, sepia tones, or softening until you see what it is you're after. Someday someone will be asking, "How can I get that film look of the 90's when I shoot digital?".
