Photography Question

Why is rewinding difficult?

I own a Nikon FM 10. During the last roll I shot, rewinding the film was very hard. I forced the rewinder and rewound the film. After developing and printing, I find the negatives have got scratched and there are streaks over most of the photos. Why does this happen? It has happened only once so far.

It seems that the release button that begins your rewind process didn't engage. Try to make the problem repeat, using a roll of expired or junk film. See if, when you feel resistance rewinding, you can push the rewind button again to free it. I'm not a repair guy, so maybe someone else here has had the same experience with a Cosina-made SLR (late Yashica, Vivitar, Phoenix, OM-2000, Canon T-60 or Cosina).
