Photography Question

Apeture and Shutter Speed

I went to my first class today and we already have an ass. We have to be able to correctly expose a roll of film. Is that involved with the meter, or the shutter speed and apeture. I am really confused about the s.s. and apeture. Can someone please help me understand this stuff?

Go down these threads and look for the answer I gave a few days ago to this same question.

Ok...so from what I understand, the apeture is the amount of light allowed to the film. The shutter speed is the time. The bigger the number, the the faster the action and the bigger hole? That did help a lot. Thanks. Also, do you have any tips on what I could do to take interesting photos in the daylight. I live in Las Vegas, so I was thinking of taking pictures of the strip from a higher point of view, but what about all the smog and nasty stuff in our air..any suggestions on what I should do about that? Sorry, I am just really interested in photo. and I want to take good pictures. Thanks again.

No one ever sees the strip in daylight. You could do some interesting shots of the strip isolating things with shallow depth of field (wide aperture and whatever the light meter tells you to set the shutter speed) or with most or all in focus (small aperture, that is, bigger number, plus whatever shutter your meter tells you).
You might catch atmosperic conditions just right to pull this off from up high. Just a thought-what do the flashy, glitzy places look like from the back side? What do show ladies look like when they arrive at work? You can say something judgemental, you can be neutral, or you can have fun. It's up to you.
I'm personally uncomfortable getting up in people's faces with a camera, but you or someone else may get away with it.
