movie capability of sony dsc-p10

I want to buy a Sony digital camera for about $4-500. The dsc-p10 seems best. How useful is the movie feature? Can it double as a passable movie camera? This is my first leap into digital cameras, and I would like a Sony as most of my electronics is Sony. Also, what are the bad features of the dsc-p10, if any, and would recommend a different Sony in this price range? Thanks.

We got one of these as a gift. If you want to do movies, buy a movie camera. You must use a pretty big memory card to hold much and the quality is poor. There are better cameras out there for the money. If true photographic quality stills are what you need, look at the Canon G3, or any point'n shoot that allows TIF or raw images at full resolution. JPEG compression, whether I want it or not, is not my idea of quality photography. I'd rather have a 2 megapixel image with every single pixel I shot, than a compressed 5 megapixel image.
This camera has a $50 battery. The remaining battery life readout is erratic. The camera is so tiny that it's difficult to hold. It's as slippery as a fish. It's a pretty good family point'n shoot, and most people would find the images fine for most purposes. I just question the $500 price tag.
