What to bring to travel photo taking Dear All, I am a newbie in this digital photography. Just got my very first digicam - 3 MP Olympus D-560 or known as C-50Zoom in Asia. Planning to bring the camera for real phototaking experience while enjoying the holiday abroad in europe for 2 weeks. I'm planning t bring my rechargeable pack but wondering if 2 sets of AA rechargable are sufficient for one day outing before I get back to the hotel for charging. Do I need to lug the tripod along too. What other accessories do u think is necessary for travel photography? Any tips on travel phototaking. Newbie

Buy more memory cards, maybe 128MB cards. This is so that you can shoot at the full 3 megapixels. If you're taking the time and expense to travel, you might want pictures that you can print and that are worth archiving to CD. I'd set the camera to the fine quality mode and 100 ISO. You are right to consider a tripod IF you will be trying inside shots, and extreme depth-of-field work when you want everyting in focus. This would result in pretty slow shutter speeds. A digital is, after all a camera, and subject to the same limitations when we have to be sure it's truly steady. Consider a monopod as a lightweight alternative to a tripod. If a tripod or monopod is too much bother, set the ISO to 400 for low light situations. The batteries MAY be OK. If not, AA's are easily available anywhere, unlike the stupid $50 lithium battery my digital has.

Sigh, my D560 can't manipulate the aperture, ISO and others. It's fully automated. Probably it's the easy to use point and shoot cam I've got here unlike most of u who has a Digital SLR. Anyway, doug, went to your website. U've got really cool travel pics. Truly inspiring!. Still have too much to learn about. Any point and shoot camera owners opinion on travel photography?
