hi pam i just gave someone some similar advice about printing on a home computer. im sorry to say that it is impossible to get profesional prints from a home computer. one of the reasons if how the paper is kept and also how it is processed. professional photo paper will always be thicker and how they are processed will make them look better. I cannot give you advice on what printer to buy, buti will tell you if you want a exceptional photo( as a gift or something) go to a photoshop (better off a private one)you would be suprised how accuate they will get your idea on to a photograph.but as far as your original question goes.... you cannot beat a professional photographic printer
