how to measure my light for my subject and the bac


Hi guys
this is very important and I dont want to screw it. this week-end I will be taking some pictures for my niece who is also my god daughter.Most of the member of the family and friends will be presents.Now I am shooting mostly drakskin,how do I approach this my equipt is elan 7e,28-135 is zoom, 85 mm 1.8 single focal, 2 500ws opus flash, a minolta 4 meter.a royal bleu, a black, a brown,and a beige backdrop I will be in a little in the bassement in order to look like a studio,with all of this said,i could have a good ten feet distance beetween subject and backdrop, so how do I play with s. speed and f.stop for a good result for the forground and background Help please this was Paul from montreal, and I am shooting film not digital
