How to set up a traveling portrait studio? I am in the process of setting up a traveling photography business. I will be taking an assortment of pictures, weddings, senior, family, children,Reunions, events, animals etc. I have cameras. I have 2 Nikon N80's, 1 Nikon 2300 (digital) and an Olympus OM-1. I have flashes that attach to the cameras and flash meters (never used-not sue how to)and a tripod. What else besides a lighting system and backgrouns, props, chairs would I need and do you have any recommendations?

It sounds like you have a good start. What kind of lenses do you have for you camera's? What you need to think of, if your studio is going to travel, is how portable everything is. If you want to set up a studio in someone elses home, it's going to take time and effort. You are going to carry in lights, camera bag, backgrounds and stand, props, chairs, stools, ect... Think about doing alot of outdoor stuff, this takes a lot less equipment. If you have to go indoors, try using what they have, like fireplaces, or walls as background, chairs or stools they have in home. Carry in as little as possible or they will think you are moving in. You can do a lot with an off camera flash that bounces on a bracket.

I have a telephoto lens and a 50mm lens as well as close up filters. Thanks for the tips. My plan is to utilize outdoor photo sessions as much as possible. What do you mean by this? You can do a lot with an off camera flash that bounces on a bracket. Please explain a little more.

By off camera flash I mean one that attaches to your camera with usually a pc cord. The head should pivot so that you can bounce it off a white ceiling or wall to soften the light. A bracket raises the flash off your camera, it attaches to your camera with the same screw hole as a tripod. You can also mount the flash to a tripod instead of on the camera. All of these things soften the look of the pictures, so that you don't have harsh flash look, but you don't have to lug heavy light equipment with you every shot.

Thank you for your response. Can you tell me where I can get a bracket like you are referring to?

bhphotovideo.com go to camera and photo gear and then flash and accessories then brackets. I have a stroboframe that works great you can search all or by brand. I'm not sure what most of them do, but I just wanted something to raise the flash off camera. The one I have runs 63.00 and tilts for vertical shots.
