Do I need a new camera?

I use a canon powershot A40 to take photos, but now I'm questioning whether or not I need a new one. I love to take pictures of detail, nature, and animals. My camera only has 2 million megapixels, so all the shots I take of flowers, leaves, etc. all come out blurry, and flat with no detail. I also take a lot of pictures of wild animals like deer and foxes. I almost always put something like a tree or tall brush in front, but my camera doesn't have manuel focus, so it focuses on the brush, and I get a blurry image of the animal. I know I need a new camera. I want to stick with digital photography, but I'm too young to get a job, therefore I don't have the option of getting a REALLY expensive camera. Do you have any suggestions?

I don't know of a digital camera with selective/manual focus and higher pixel count in the price range you indicate. I'd suggest an inexpensive film slr and an inexpensive scanner to digitize the images.
