Caitlin, although people on this site can answer all of these questions, I would suggest that you go to the library and check out a few beginning photography books. There are many books, that explain the basics and that would be a good place to start, then see if your dad will let you take some beginner classes on line or somewhere close to you. How old are you? A lot of high schools offer photography as a course, although, my daughter still doesn't know most of this stuff after a year in photography.

Caitlyn, Judith is right. If you are really interested in photography, you should take a course! I am enrolled in the New York Institute of Photography. It is wonderful. Everything comes in the mail. You get lessons, audio cassettes and vhs tapes. You do photo projects with each unit. This is a wonderful program and will be perfect if you are serious about photography. The website is www.nyip.com Good Luck!!!
