Unsharp night B&W shots

I recently shot some night photos using Kodak TMax 400 with a Minolta XG-7 SLR and a standard 50mm lens. The apertures varied with a larger setting but not wide open and the exposures were bracketed for different times.

I used a cable release and everything was on a tripod.

The problem was that when I focused it was all crisp and in focus, although when I printed them they were not as sharp on the print. This is how the negatives turned out.

So my question would be is whether or not the unsharp focus is due to the fact that the cable release was causing camera shake or because I was overexposing or what? I have not done a lot of night photography and am not sure why this turned out this way.

The subject was a statue against a clear sky with a minimal light on the statue to accent the features at night from the (not flowing and without water in it) fountain.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Eric
