Best optical zoom camera under $500

I have been looking for a digital camera with at least a 6x optical zoom for under $500. The two that have come to my attention are the Fuji Finepix 3800 and the Olympus Camedia C-720. There is also the C-700 that was recommended by Damian. After reading many reviews I still can't tell which one is the better camera. Does anyone have experience with them that can recommend the better camera, or perhaps I am overlooking other good options in this price range with at least a 6x zoom? Thanks so much for your time and help.

One of the digital cameras that I use which is relatively inexpensive is the Sony DS-S30. It has Memory Sticks to store the images on and has quite a range of images sizes that it can save to.

I have had the most experience with that particular digital camera as well as the Sony Mavica, but that one is a bit more expensive.

The DSC-S30 has 6x zoom as well. I am actually going to be selling that one with a 4Meg and 16 Meg Memory Stick (and I am not trying to advertise here)if you wanted more info about the workings of the camera.

It has been really good and if you look at my website http://wedjlok.slackonomics.com you can see some of the images I have taken with it. Those would be the one of the Falls and the cemetary as well as a few others.

I prefer my SLR and just do not get any more use out of the digital, really, is why I am wanting to get rid of it. But Sony does have some good cameras and this one does macro shots as well really nicely (as in my Bloom picture on the website).

That's my two cents without getting specific and technical.
