How to take photos of ice glaciers

I recently purchased a Minolta Maxxum 5 (my very first SLR camera). I have no experience in photography. So my question is I will be taking a Alasa cruise in June and am wondering what all I need to take good quality pictures with this camera. Do I need filters? I have the 28-80mm af zoom lens the camera came with. I will want to take pictures of landscape (ice glaciers, etc), nature/wildlife, and events like fishing/usual tourist pictures. Thanks for all the help!

This kind of depends on how much you want to spend, and how often you will use the camera after the cruise. I would pick up a uv filter to leave on the camera, more for protection of the lens then anything. You may want a polizer for blue, blue skies, and glare reduction. I don't think I would mess with any other filters, at this point. As far as lenses, that where you have to decide what is important, and how much you want to spend. You could go with a longer zoom lens, if you want to get closer pictures of people fishing, and wild life. You also may want a good wide angle lens for ice glaciers, and landscapes. I might want to also check on a good flash for stuff on the ship.
