what flash and how to avoid green eye in dogs?

I have a Nikon 5700 coolpix. In using the built-in speedlight it's impossible to get a flash pix of an animal without getting green-eye. I really need help like sos about which off cam flash and what type bracket would be of most use for my cam to avoid the greeneye? I know natural light would be the best but it's just unavoidable for me with the indoor animal photography work I do. Also about the flash sync, what would be the flash sync on the E5700 digital to keep from getting a black pic??
