Quick release plates

I need to get a tripod so I can play with timed exposusures. I have a Quantaray monopod and discovered that the plate wont interchange with that on the Quantaray tripods. Then to boot they used two different plates for the tripods. Is there a tripod manufacturer who does use the same plate for all their tripods and monopod?

OK, so you have a monopod and a tripod. Is the head removable from each? Replace the heads with a pair from Bogen/Manfrotto that take the same QR plate. The 3229 tilt head for the monopod (or a small ball head) will take the same QR plate as a 3030 or 3437 tripod head. These items aren't cheap, but they're quality gear.

No I don't yet have a decent tripod. Part of the quick release plate concept is lost if you have to change the plate to use another unit. I'd like to avoid that if I could. Before I get too much invested in this, I would like to find out if a manufacturer does utilize the same plate throughout.

Bogen/Manfrotto tripods (bogenphoto.com) are of decent quality and don't cost the arm-and-leg of Gitzo, Hakuba and others. Check betterphoto's reviews page. Manfrotto does sell a Quick-release adapter that you can put onto your existing monopod head (either onto the monopod's screw if the Quanaray head is removable, or onto the existing head). Just match the shape of the release plate to the release plate on your new Bogen tripod head. See their web page or, better yet, get their catalog. I'm finished with mine; I'll give it to you for what it costs me to send it.

Thanks for the offer but I bought a Qt 550 tripod during the weekend and guess I'll just have to get used to switching the plates.
