Careers in photography I am a Junior in high school. I am currently taking advanced photography. It is one of my favorite subjects!!! My teacher has assigned a research paper on careers in photography. It must include training, necessary skills, and equipment needed. I would like to hear your professional opinion about these subjects. Thank you for your time!

Hi Stephanie, I'm really glad to hear that one of your favourite subjects is photography. I learned photography on the job and have made a living at it for over twenty years. I did a lot of reading and still do. There is always something new to learn with digital cameras and digital imaging. Equipment is not as important as skill. I'm really into digital imaging and I love it. It's like having two businesses in one. Every time I take pictures I make up a digital arrangement and 9 times out 10 I sell it. It's really neat for wedding and family pictures. I've just recently started taking pictures in medium format - I bought a new Pentax 645-N and I just love it. I still use my Contax cameras (I really like my portrait lens, an 85mm which I paid about $800. 15 years ago and is worth about $2,550 now! I also use studio lights and white umbrellas for soft lighting. What kind of photography are you interested in? Good luck with your research paper. Hope this helps! Suzanne
