Since you narrow the question down that way, my own choice isn't based on what's easier, but on how I get the best possible quality from the 35-mm gear I can afford. I shoot fine-grained film like Provia 100. I keep the slides or negs, knowing I have the best possible archivable image. Then for showing my images, I scan the slides or negatives in a film scanner. Digital IS easier, when you consider that all you do is transfer the image to a computer. To be blunt, digital cameras I can afford have not shown me much. I see Coke bottle lenses that distort terribly at the edges, no lens shades, and strange glitches in the images. The cameras I can afford shoot only in JPEG. What I want is out there, but I can't swing 8 grand for a camera body. I get better digital quality from scanning the film. I beat this dead horse even more on my web page.
