Ameture Studio Equipment

Need advice on buying studio lights for portraits taken in my home. I can not afford the best of the best as I am in the learning stages of the game, not taking photos for profit. I have visited the White Lightning and Alien Bees sites and like there prices. I can get a full kit, but rather will need to build as I learn. Any suggestions on whats most important to begin?

I figured I would mention something on this Question, in case someone-else uses it as a reference. If you have an offer for used equipment, you may want to check out a chart at the following website, www.botzilla.com. It breaks down by brand name the voltage of most lighting systems and shoe mount flases, with advice on whether or not the lighting system is save to use with, among other cameras, the Canon EOS line. I usually access the website by selecting at option at the following website, http://medfmt. This website gives a breakdown of the possible dangers of high voltage systems when used with modern electronic cameras.
