I know you can make a soft focus filtern by using finger nail polish throughout the lens. I have made my own and it worked most of thet time. What I did was put the nail polish only on the outer edges took some pictures and they came out to where the subject was in focus but everything is was slightly blurred it made for a great picture. Yes you can also put vaseline on the filter and it will scatter the light and make it soft. YOu can also use a screen over the lens and that will have somewhat of the same effect. The last thing you can do which is weird but it does work is put a tan or white colored stocking/knee hight very tight over the filter and it works pretty darn good.
