Difference in NC and VC Film

Hi everyone,
I am doing a wedding that I really am not prepared for - however it has been recomended to me that I use Kodak professional 400 NC. I also know that this film comes in VC - does anyone know if the natural colour is better or the vibrant color?

In the 400 speed Portra I prefer the VC for most situations. Not so much because the color is more vibrant but because it has a little more contrast. If you are shooting in high contrast lighting then the NC would be the way to go. But for most lighting the VC is a little snappier.

I suggest you use Kodak Portra 400UC - it will give you fine grain, nice saturation, and nice skin tones! It is the perfect balance between NC and VC and is designed for situations such as you will face.

Good luck!!

Be careful with Kodak VC. It is great for certain applications, but be aware that it tends to make faces/skin tones very ruddy/red. Not pleasant for wedding shots unless the subjects have a olive toned complexions. Look at Fuji films, either a negative film or reveral film. Also consider b/w, like TMX 100, gives a crisp look with great tonal quality, almost illuminates the white bridal gown.

I've never had anything but great skin tones with 400VC. I'm not sure what Pam's referring to unless she's thinking about 160VC. I have had poor results regarding skin tones with the 160VC but never the 400VC. As to her suggestion to use reversal film (slides), I highly advise you not to do that. Slide film is just too precise to use at a wedding. Negative film is much more forgiving so that if your exposure is off a bit it won't matter. If you don't get the exposure right on with slide film the shot could be ruined. A wedding is too important to take that chance.

Kodak NC is better than VC if you are using flash. NC gives better skin tones in that situation. Also beware that Fuji 120 film has a problem with 6 4.5 format as the edge numbering will drive you crazy. Better by far is the kodak film as the edge numbering corresponds with 6 4.5 format, as well as the 6x6 format
