I was using a Nikon 8008S with a SB-24 speedlight, Nikkor Zoom 70-300mm f/4-56 ED AF lenses. The first 4 photos came out with the black, the last four came out fine. This was a standard shoot, I never re-adjusted any settings once I was set up. Does anyone have any opinion why this may have occurred. Thanks!

It looks like your shutter was set above sync speed. Either that or something was obscuring the flash and causing a shadow.

Thanks Jeff. With this flash on the 8008S it will not allow the speed to go over 250. Now I am wondering if maybe the flash didn't shoot the last four frames and that is why they came out ok. It maybe possible that something was obsuring the flash. But the background in the first 4 frames is dark even where the player is not.
