Getting Digital Copies of Fine Art Right

When shooting artwork with a digital camera and squaring the image with and LCD screen, I am find a few things to be very frustrating.
1. Even using a tripod, it is dificult to not distort the image by skewing. When using the view finder the image is too far away. I do not use the zoom.
2. There are not filters to fit the lens, so I am not sure how to adjust my color. The White Balance function on the camera is the function which I believe is supposed to handle this, but I am not finding it to be dead on. Often I shoot my Pastels under color corrected blubs with the WB set for "flourecent" this works okay, but if I am shooting an oil, the light needs to bounce off the ceiling (or some where) to keep the glare down and these are shooting dark. I can not use a fill flash on any art work, and tilting the art only exasperates the problem in number one and doesn't help the color problem. I did shoot outside and found that because of the natural blueness of outdoor light based on the Kelvin scale, there was a blue tint, eventhough the WB was set correctly, and of course I could not add a correcting filter or film. This is very concerning for me. HELP!

And while I am asking - I did see some mention of digital files becoming transperencies (slides) do these look like first generations or more like ones made from inner negs? (oops or did I reverse that)

Thanks so much for your help!
I'll try and attach some examples!
