fixed vs zoom Ok, just need to know. what's better fixed or zoom. I'm working with pentax equipment (SLR) and need to know if I should spend lots of money on fast zoom lenses ($1000) or little money or fixed fast lenses ($200) I would like to get into sports photography but I want good sharp colorful images and I've been hearing that fixed fast lenses (1.7) may give me the best pictures for the cheapest price. Any advice? ty

Generally speaking fixed lenses tend to be sharper. But if you get a high quality zoom you may find it difficult to see the difference. I don't know a lot about the Pentax line but I shoot Canon and all but one of my lenses is a zoom and sharpness is not an issue. They perform very well. In sports photography, where you are sometimes shooting in a hurry, a zoom is really handy. You don't always have the time or space to move around to frame precisely with a fixed lens.
