35mm SLR for scenery, wildlife and babies I'm going to South Africa and would love to get close up pics of the scenery and wildlife. I'd also love to capture great shots of my 1 year old nephew. In the past I've used a point and shoot camera. I had pretty much decided on buying a Nikon N70 when I heard that Canon made a better camera. Which Canon camera would be the equivalent of Nikon's N70? Which would you recommend?

The Canon I would compare to the Nikon N70 would be the Canon EOS Elan II with 28-80mm USM V Zoom Lens. They are both great cameras. I prefer the Canon because it features extremely fast, extremely quiet focusing. I find the Canon to be simply to operate and easier to use. On top of all this, the Canon is cheaper. Many photographers, however, prefer the Nikon. If possible, try them both out and see which one seems most comfortable and enjoyable to hold in your hands and shoot with. P.S. For African wildlife, I would also highly (highly!) recommend a long telephoto zoom such as the Canon EF 100-300mm f/4.5-5.6 USM or the Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM.
