Removing Shadows with Flash

I had an old Minolta XG-M and a vivitar flash for the past 3 years...I have since purchased a Nikon N80 and am learning all of what it entails...can someone please tell me how I can remove those annoying shadows when taking pictures of people in front of a wall indoors...I know I could not use a flash and put the camera on a tripod and shoot and the shadow would not be there...but I would prefer to use a flash, but when I do that with the built in the shadow from the person is on the wall behind...do I neew to purchase a slave unit??? HELP!

I've used the little cheapie Ritz Camera slave flash successfully for this very purpose. Place it where it will illuminate the wall behind.

Will the built in flash of the N80 set the slave off or do I need to purchase a Nikon Flash unit?

Thanks!!!

No way to know but to try it and see. My guess is that it will work, as long as your subject doesn't block the slave sensor.
